Andrew Lynch has commenced the long drive across the Nullarbor to Western Australia, all for just a few minutes of glory on the Perth Motorplex ‘snake pit’ at Epic Tyres Burnout King this Friday.
Lynch’s [LYNCHY] Toyota Corolla is not a stranger to this side of the continent, having made an appearance here three years ago, but that trip did not exactly go to plan.
“It’s an awesome atmosphere in Perth, I loved it and that is why I am coming back,” he said. “Unfortunately I threw a rod out last time so hopefully this time it goes better!”
The Corolla is far from factory underneath the hood, with a Chevy LS1 V8 transplanted into the engine bay to do, in Lynch’s words, ‘burnouts and lots of them.’
“I think my burnouts started where they shouldn’t, out on the road mucking around, but it then moved into something more serious when I found out there was actual competitions,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if I don’t win or get a place, I just love the atmosphere and last time I went I was amazed how into it the crowd was.
“The weather is looking perfect so nothing can go wrong from here really.”
Lynch’s fellow Victorian Rick Fuller is going to be joining the party at Epic Tyres Burnout King, but unlike Lynch this will be his first time doing skids at Perth Motorplex.
“The Perth Motorplex burnout pad looks fast, with big crowds, so I’m looking to have some fun with the guys,” he said.
Fuller drives [LSONE], a Holden VK Commodore with a supercharged, methanol fuelled LS1 motor up front producing in the order of 750 horsepower.
“A good burnout is about heaps of smoke, heaps of revs, using all the area you’ve got, and 100% we’ll be trying big tip ins,” he said.
Fuller rates his recent third place at the Burnout Masters at Summernats as a career highlight and says he hasn’t been able to stop doing burnouts since giving one a try. He had just one bit of advice for newcomers.
“Make sure you have got a good job and lots of money,” he laughed.
Epic Tyres Burnout King is Perth Motorplex’s biggest burnout event annually. First skids take place from 5pm Friday.
