Sam Fenech will have his TheAppShop Camaro in Western Australia for the first time this weekend as he contests the ANDRA Top Doorslammer Championship at the Goldenstates.
Fenech is a former Australian Outlaw 10.5 Champion who has changed his focus to the wild world of Top Doorslammers recently, travelling as far afield as Darwin and Alice Springs to pursue the championship.
“This is our first time at the Motorplex,” he said. “We will be looking for a personal best there, I’m told it is very flat and has a great surface, so hopefully we get good air conditions.
“We haven’t been a 5.8 anything yet, so we are trying to get there. But if we qualify for the event that will be our first achievement. So far for our first season in Top Doorslammer, we have a few points and we are not doing too bad.”
The team will be concentrating on tuning the chassis to handle the 3000 horsepower supercharged Hemi up front of the Camaro.
“We are focusing on rear end set up at the moment, playing with four link adjustments,” Fenech said. “We feel the engine program is there and we are a little bit under-winged for what we want to do so we may change that after this event. But for Perth we will play with car set up.”
Fenech will be taking on a strong field that includes reigning champion John Zappia, Mark Belleri, Grant O’Rourke, Scott MacLean, Daniel Gregorini and many more. The ANDRA Top Doorslammer Championship will take place alongside the ANDRA Top Fuel Motorcycle Championships which itself has attracted some awesome entries including Mark Drew, Jay Upton, Damian Muscat and a bunch of other nitro fuelled missiles.
The Goldenstates commences on Friday.
