The Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series will get an influx of fresh faces this Saturday for the Sprintcar Westernapolis at Perth Motorplex and among them is South Australian Brock Hallett, who will be driving the W60 for the J&S Drilling team.
Hallett shot to prominence recently at the opening round of World Series Sprintcars at Murray Bridge where he brought home his first Sprintcar win.
“I have been in speedway for 12 years and racing Sprintcars for five of them,” he said. “It was great to win at Murray Bridge, I spend a lot of time in Adelaide and I have a big following and support from South Australia. It was also good to get my first win on such a big night and beat some of my childhood heroes.”
Hallett acknowledged that his Sprintcar career hadn’t been full of highlights, but he felt it was a case of being ‘almost there’ a lot.
“Sprintcars has been up and down, I have always been ‘there abouts’ but never been able to pocket a win,” he said. “During the last couple seasons I have been concentrating on trying to be more consistent and making more top 10s each night.”
The tactic appears to have paid off as Hallett heads to the big banked turns of Perth Motorplex, where he won the Australian Formula 500 title in 2014.
“It’s a great facility and it’s really cool how the crowd can stroll through the pits at their leisure. I’m just hoping to be consistent in the W60, give the guys a good result and give myself a good name there.”
Hallett is keeping his personal goals achievable for this weekend, which is more about track time ahead of the imminent World Series Sprintcars western swing.
“I just want to get through the night, turn some laps and achieve some much needed seat time on the bigger tracks leading up to World Series Sprintcars,” he said.
“I’m sure the J&S drilling team will give me a good car. I just need to make sure I drive the wheels off it and be somewhere up the front come A-main time.”
As well as the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series, the Sprintcar Westernapolis is bursting at the seams with entertaining speedway including the WA Late Model Campionship, The Pool Shop Group Speedcars, Red Pepper Promotions Wingless Sprints, plus the Carbusters Holden vs Ford Demolition Derby.
Gates open at 4.30pm with heats from 5pm and pre-purchase tickets are available from results.motorplex.com.au.
